Malaria No More welcomes the U.S. Senate’s confirmation of Rex Tillerson as secretary of state.
As CEO of ExxonMobil, Mr. Tillerson was instrumental in supporting the malaria fight, especially in Africa.
Thanks to bipartisan support in Congress and across the last two administrations, remarkable progress has been made to end malaria. Led by the U.S., global efforts to end this deadly, yet preventable, disease, has saved more than 6 million lives since 2000, and mortality rates have declined by 62 percent between 2000 and 2015. Yet many significant challenges remain. In 2015, there were more than 212 million new malaria cases and 429,000 malaria-related deaths worldwide.
Malaria No More looks forward to working with Secretary Tillerson in his new role to further advance American leadership in the fight to end malaria.
