Washington, D.C., June 20, 2024 - Malaria No More CEO Martin Edlund issued the following statement upon the announcement that the Biden Administration has pledged $1.58 billion to Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance for the 2026-2030 period:
Malaria No More welcomes the announcement of this early and robust pledge of $1.58 billion from the U.S. to Gavi’s replenishment. Through this pledge, the United States is sending a signal to the rest of the world that addressing urgent global health challenges will not only save millions of lives but improve health security and economies around the world. We encourage other nations to step up to the challenge at Gavi’s pledging conference.
As Gavi looks ahead to its next five-year strategy, the continued rollout of two new malaria vaccines across Africa will be a critical step in driving down deaths, protecting millions of children and moving closer to malaria elimination.
