Washington, DC, January 12, 2023 – Malaria No More CEO Martin Edlund issued the following statement upon the announcement that Richard R. Verma, a longtime and valued member of MNM’s Board (2018-2022), has been nominated by President Biden to be the Department of State’s Deputy Secretary for Management and Resources:
We warmly congratulate Rich on his nomination to this key State Department role, and we thank him for his invaluable service since 2018 to the global malaria campaign. A former U.S. Ambassador to India with a distinguished career in the private sector, Rich has played an integral role in guiding Malaria No More’s work, especially in India and the Asia Pacific. Rich provided strategic guidance to MNM and helped to leverage new global health innovations and mobilize political will towards eradicating malaria.
Thanks in part to Rich’s work with Malaria No More and our collaboration with the State of Odisha in India, malaria cases in the Indian state with the highest rates of malaria have decreased by more than 90% since 2017. We are enormously grateful to Rich for his contributions toward our mission to end humanity’s oldest and deadliest disease.
