"A $10 Mosquito Net is Making Charity Cool"

We might have been thinking it, but it was the NY Times that said it. The truth is, few serious global health issues can offer young people with the same opportunity to have a life-saving impact that malaria does. For just $10, the price of a movie ticket, you and your friends can protect African children threatened by malarial mosquitoes.

Malaria No More welcomes the leadership, creativity, and contributions of students and teachers in the fight against malaria. Join the thousands of young people who have already taken up the cause and made an impact.

Student Ideas In Action

Ellisville Students

Students Raise Money For American Idol Charity

After watching FOX's American Idol Gives Back special, students at Ellisville Elementary School in Missouri were determined to try and help African Children facing the threat of malaria, and give them new hope. As student Justin Ruck explained, "This is so big, even though it's wiped out here, it's still a big problem and we can do something to help." With the support of teacher Patrick Fischer the class organized their own anti-malaria campaign called "Money For Malaria", set up an educational website, sent letters to their state representatives, local media, and businesses to solicit their support; and organized fundraising events. The students’ efforts yielded over $5,000 in donations and were highlighted in television and radio interviews.

Notre Dame Students

Notre Dame Community Gives 1000 Children the Gift of Life

The University of Notre Dame's Millennium Development Goals Task Force, led by four sophomores and with the backing of their professors raised over $10,000 from students and faculty, helping protect 1000 people from mosquitoes that transmit malaria. Working in collaboration with the Sophomore Class Council and Progressive Student Alliance, and with the support of the Center for Social Concerns, the groups launched the Malaria Bed Net Campaign as their first major campus action. They held a candle-light vigil to raise awareness about malaria, and collected donations on campus before holidays, providing purchasers with certificates to honor their contributions.

French Club Reaches Out On Behalf of West Africa

At Duval High School in Maryland, a personal connection to malaria sparked a passionate response from the school’s French club. Many of the club members were recent immigrants from West Africa, and each had a story about friends and family impacted by malaria. One student had a close friend who slipped into a coma and died of complications from the disease while living in Nigeria. To help prevent more deaths in the future, the club devoted their time to raise money on behalf of Malaria No More. Teaming up with the Drama Club, club members organized a West African-themed dinner and fashion show, helping to raise over $1,200 for life-saving bed nets.
