Malaria No More attended the World Congress of Muslim Philanthropists (WCMP) in Abu Dhabi entitled, “Conventional to Strategic: A New Paradigm in Giving.”  The Congress was supported by the Islamic Development Bank, Emirates Foundation and Al-Faleh Group.  A recent McKinsey & Company report estimated philanthropic giving among Gulf Cooperation Council countries at $15-20 billion, making the region among the most generous in the world. However, less than $2 billion of this funding is actually institutionalized and to that end, WCMP works to build capacity among the world’s Muslim donors.

The conference drew a diverse gathering of world leaders, public and private donors, individual philanthropists and researchers from over 20 countries and featured several key leaders like, Organization of the Islamic Conference Assistant Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs Mr. Atta El-Manane Bakhit, His Royal Highness Prince El Hassan bin Talal of Jordan, Muslim icon  Amr Khaled, UAE Economy Minister Shiekha Lubna Al Qasimi, Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and world renowned musician, philanthropist and Malaria No More board member, Youssou N’Dour.

Malaria is endemic in most of the Muslim world and we estimate that 40% of those most impacted by malaria are Muslim. Malaria No More enjoyed great visibility at the World Congress of Muslim Philanthropists as the Millennium Development Goals and malaria control efforts were represented well by panelists and featured speakers and on all Congress collateral.  Malaria No More held several bilateral meetings and fielded great interest from Congress participants in advancing our work.  Malaria No More is committed to engaging the Muslim community as part of our faith-based initiatives.
